The BVYA Stingrays, a competitive summer swim team from the Schertz area,
has placed first in the AASSL Northeast Division II Championship Meet held
on July 1, out placing swim teams from Live Oak, Sonterra, Encino Forest,
Northern Hills, Windcrest, Triton Sports Center, Regency and El Dorado with
an overall combined event score of 2900. The team consists of 5- to
15-year-old girls and boys who practice 5 times a week at the Schertz Pool
during the season. The team of 160 swimmers, lead by coaches Beth and Pete
Peters, assistant coaches William Peters and Alysha Peters and seven
instructors, went undefeated against Live Oak, Sonterra, Oakwell Farms and
Alamo Heights in the four city meets leading up to Divisionals. According
to Coach Beth Peters, "Each and every swimmer has personally improved since
day one. Whether its learning all four strokes , mastering their starts
and turns, or dropping time…they are all winners! It all came together at
Champs for our swimmers. After six grueling weeks of late night practices
and early morning meets, our kids got it and each and every one of them
looked like they'd been swimming for years."
