Welcome to BVYA Basketball 2009-10
Who is BVYA? Buffalo Valley Youth
Association was formed in 1974 and is a parent volunteer run youth organization
offering basketball, baseball, softball, volleyball, football, cheerleading and
swim team for kids in our local area.
How are the teams picked? All age groups are picked using a blind draft method. BVYA does not allow players to return to the
same team from year to year. Each team starts over with a new roster. Coach’s
kids are automatically placed on their team.
Where are games played and
practices held? Games are played at either
Dobie or Corbett Junior High Schools.
Lil-tykes play games at Wilder Intermediate (bring your chairs for Wilder as there are no bleachers). We
utilize the SCUCISD gyms all over the City for practices.
When are games played? We play games Monday thru Saturday. Saturday games start at 8:30; depending on the division and are usually
over by 5:00pm. Each team gets a half court practice once a week for one hour.
Practice days and time are decided by the Head coach.
The GYMS: We clean up after
ourselves; we respect school district property; we do not leave trash lying
around and UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES SMOKE ON OR IN ANY SCUCISD property.
When does the season start
and end? We will try to start mid November and end
around mid February. We will NOT play
or practice during Thanksgiving or Christmas break or practice when schools are
closed.
Trophies and awards at the
end of the season: ALL players through 4th
grade get some type of participation award. All divisions except Lil-tykes will
have standings and be awarded first and second place trophies.
My player decided not to
play after registration. Do I get a
refund? BVYA has a written refund policy that
addresses when and how refunds are granted.
What uniforms are
required? BVYA will provide, depending on grade,
either a t-shirt or jersey for the player to wear and keep. NO POCKETS are allowed and the player is NOT
allowed on the court with them. NON-MARKING shoes only are allowed.
Can my player play up or
down a division? No.
We separate the players by grades, not age.
Who are those referees? We contract with an outside firm to provide officials for our
games. If you are interested in
officiating please let us know and we will put you in contact with the right
folks.
Code of Conduct &
sportsmanship rules: BVYA will not tolerate abusive and
un-sportsmanlike behavior. SET A
POSITIVE EXAMPLE FOR THE KIDS!!
Are we having a
fundraiser? Each year we hold a fundraiser to help us
raise funds to purchase new equipment and fund projects. Instead of making the
fundraiser mandatory like some leagues, we ask each family to help us raise $30.00 per family. Please voluntarily support the
fundraiser.
Who is in charge of the
league? BVYA is a volunteer organization run by
parents. Every coach and Board Member
volunteers their time so that all the kids can play sports. If you are interested in serving on the
Board or volunteering your time as a Coach or Helper, please let us know. There is a Commissioner and usually a
co-commissioner for basketball.
