Welcome to BVYA Baseball or Softball
Helpful Tips and Information
How are teams picked? Up through coach pitch all baseball teams are picked using a blind draft system. Mustang and above age players (9 yrs and older) have a short tryout for evaluation by the coaches and then the coaches draft the teams in sequence
Special requests? Unfortunately this creates problems with the draft and prevents a fair and equal selection of the players by the coaches. BVYA does not allow players to be paired.
Practices and games? We practice at various sites in the community and play most our games at either Thulemeyer Park or Schertz Ball Park. Softball should be played either at home or in the interlock with other area Pony Leagues.
When are games played? We play games Monday thru Saturday. Saturday games start at 8:30 and depending on age group are over by 5:00.
BVYA and the City of Schertz? BVYA has a contract to use the fields to provide youth programs for the City. BVYA volunteer parents (THAT’S YOU) clean up after games, mow the grass, trim the weeds, work the fields when it rains, empty the trash and take care of minor repairs around the complex. In exchange for our work and efforts, the City does NOT CHARGE US A FEE TO USE THE FIELDS. However, BVYA is responsible for 30% of all utilities.
Season start and end? We will try to start March 27th and end late May early June.
Awards? ALL Lil-Sluggers, Shetland T-ball and Pinto Coach pitch players get some type of participation award, either a medal or trophy. Shetland and above age groups also have standings and are awarded first and second place trophies.
Refunds? BVYA has a written refund policy that addresses when and how refunds are granted.
Uniforms? BVYA will provide a MLB style jersey and hat for the baseball players to wear and keep. Softball girls are provided a softball jersey and visor. Bats are NOT furnished.
Umpires: We employ our own umpires for baseball and contract out the softball officials. Their experience ranges from rookie to experienced. If you are interested in umpiring, let us know.
Parent Code of Conduct: BVYA has a code of conduct for coaches and members. Please report any unsportsmanlike behavior to a Commissioner, Board member or to our league email: bvya@att.net . SET A POSITIVE EXAMPLE FOR THE KIDS!
Fundraiser? This allows us to replace old equipment and offset maintenance costs to the complexes. Because of YOUR support, we did not raise our rates this year.
BVYA BOARD: BVYA is a volunteer organization run by an elected Board of Directors who volunteers their time to administer the league. If you are interested in serving on the Board or volunteering your time as a Coach or Helper, please let us know.
Concession stand and a “field maintenance day” are part of membership. Each team is assigned at least one work session in the concession stand during the season as well as a maintenance day at the field they play on. Parents are required to help during concession duty and field maintenance days.
All-Star: After the regular season is completed PONY Baseball will have National tournaments for all ages. BVYA will send All-Star teams to post season play. The coaches select the teams.
Coaching staffs: Our coaches are all volunteer parents with varying degrees of experience. But BVYA has a policy that determines which coaches are approved.
What other sports does BVYA do? Currently we do baseball, softball, Swim team, football, cheerleading, basketball and volleyball. We do not provide soccer.
Have a GREAT SEASON!
